The California Spring Wedding Day

Entering our second week of this triple digit California heat wave I’m laying by the pool reminiscing on spring time. Where everything is better; the flower buds are blooming and the wedding bells are ringing. We get the smallest glimpse of springtime here in NorCal, even the trees seem confused when to grow sometimes but alas for a few sweet days before the summer settles in we have green lawns, pink wildflowers and brides in white. This wedding was absolute magic, perfect weather for a perfect couple so perfectly in love. As a wedding photographer I find myself feeling very tangled up in the lives of my clients. I feel so involved in the biggest moments all while being behind the scenes. I’ve watched love blossom and grow as I meet two kids in love for a couple shoot, am called by a nervous boyfriend for a surprise engagement, messaged by a new fiancé to be there for the wedding day, contacted by a new mama for her maternity session and then invited to meet their family. I think of it as the circle of life for a photographer, capturing each and every moment, every phase, every stage of growth along the way. How lucky am I to tell these stories through my lens? These two were no exception, what a beautiful start to their story- to tie the knot when everything around them was also growing in full force, unapologetically adding color and life to the world. I pray for more days like this, travelling around my sunny state of California and beyond, capturing glimpses of love stories beginning to unfold. This day had it all, blushing bride, dashing groom, bright florals and even a bar on wheels. I can’t believe I get to wear this hat, the wedding photographer, my dream job - with my million cameras and their million lenses and my harness and my bags and backpacks, it’s the best baggage to carry around.
